Packrafts
Micro Rafting System (MRS) packrafts have become our number one best-selling item, and it’s easy to see why. They are fantastic on so many levels: quality of material, lightweight, easy to assemble and pack up, great warranty and FUN! Our family loves spending time exploring mountain lakes and canals near our home around the Rocky Mountains. While we have not personally gone through any rapids yet, lots of our customers have, and they love MRS packrafts for whitewater.
If you aren’t familiar with packrafting, one of the newer sports in North America, it can seem like these boats are too good to be true! They fit into a backpack (no more carrying around a big bulky canoe or kayak, thank you) and are surprisingly easy to inflate with the screw-on airbag where you “catch” air and compress it into the boat. After about ten scoops of air from the airbag, the vessel is 90% inflated. A few more puffs from your mouth or an optional (not-included) pump, and your raft is buoyant and ready to go. Another surprising feature of these beauties is how sturdy they actually are. When people first see them, they think that they are going to rip easily, but they are actually very strong. And in the improbable event of damage to the material, MRS offers a three-year warranty. Our good friend had his stuck in an underwater cave for months, and even after that crazy adventure, he was able to use his MRS packraft.
Material
The material is hand-made from high-quality urethane-coated nylon, (not PVC or hypalon like other cheaper boats on the market). This material is light, abrasion-resistant, UV tolerant, non-ageing and maintains flexibility at low temperatures. It has been specially treated to make a smooth, scratch-resistant surface. This creates a supple material for easy packing and folding. It is also very easy to repair in the unlikely event that the packraft should need a patch.
MRS fully supports sustainable development and is deeply involved in the research and development of TPU coated fabric. The TPU fabric in the MRS packrafts are all Swiss Bluesign®-certified, meaning that they are environmental-friendly and manufactured in a safe workspace.
Distinctive Features
The Nomad S1 series is great for speed because of its streamlined shape and longer waterline. It is the fastest single person packraft that we carry. This is the new and improved model after the designers responded to customer feedback on the previous model. The narrow hull reduces water resistance and also lets you paddle the packraft with less effort. The detachable skeg reduces water resistance and increases the overall stability when you want to do so. This reduces lateral swing and increases the speed of the vessel. Although it has a narrow hull, it is specially equipped with a high seat cushion so that you will not be squeezed between the tubes. You will have plenty of space as you sit on the high-set seat.
This particular model works best on still water, and it’s excellent for exploring lakes and fishing. You could also easily take the Nomad down a river with no rapids. If you think you might be paddling in a lot of rivers, you will want to order the spraydeck to keep you dry.
The Nomad S1 opens up a whole new realm of hiking possibilities and adventures for you to explore. It is one of the lightest of the packrafts we carry, making it a perfect option for backpacking. Many people love the Nomad Series for it’s sturdy, reliable feel.
The Nomad S1 series comes with optional internal storage system (ISS), where the stern of the boat can be accessed with a water-resistant zipper, and the side tubes can be stuffed with more storage. This actually proves to be an advantage in handling the boat and does not affect buoyancy. However, once you open the zip, the craft deflates, so you will want to be strategic about what you store in the side tubes. Using a dry bag will make it easy to access your gear from the side tube.
There is a Nomad XL version which is 14 cm (5.5 inches) longer inside than the regular Nomad. The seat is 4 cm (1.5 inches) wider than a regular Nomad. The Nomad XL offers a 4 point thigh strap connection (versus the 3 point in the regular Nomad).
There is also a Nomad Lake option in which the bow is flatter and has a longer waterline, which is especially suitable for flat water. It does not come with thigh strap tie downs, but it does come with an adjustable footrest.
Nomad S1 Series Options Include: Internal storage system (ISS), Inflatable foot rest, thigh straps and a spray deck (type-D). Please note that thigh straps need to be ordered separately.

The Ponto works best on still water, so it’s great for exploring lakes and fishing. This product opens up a whole new realm of hiking possibilities and adventures for you to explore. It is one of the lightest of the packrafts we carry (only the Tulo is lighter), making it a perfect option for backpacking.
The Ponto model is the slightly larger version of the Tulo.
The Ponto has been called the ‘fat bike’ and ‘pontoon’ of packrafts because of its generous width, perfect for carrying a bit extra and a feature that makes it super-sturdy and rugged. You will have enough space in a Ponto to carry extra luggage or even a small child. This feature makes it a favorite with hunters, anglers, cyclists, backpackers, dog parents and families. It is also an excellent option for people who are extra tall or too large to fit comfortably in a single packraft and aren’t planning any whitewater adventures. Another distinctive of the Ponto is that it doesn’t have a spray deck. This is an advantage for some, especially if you aren’t concerned about cold water splashing into your packraft or if you are trying to lighten your overall weight (a spray deck adds about 600-700 grams or 1.3-1.5 lbs).

DISTINCTIVE FEATURES
The Surveyor packraft has been designed to be as lightweight as possible while still retaining the iconic MRS streamlined hull. The centered seating position optimizes the boat’s control ability, and the redesigned backrest provides even support while maintaining breathability. MRS opted to prioritize backpacking experience, and the Surveyor is a comfortable and capable packraft that is still lightweight. Tizip airtight zippers can be added to expand internal storage (ISS).
Please be aware when planning to use the Surveyor for rafting and other high-risk activities that the coating of this fabric is extremely thin. The floor is made of high-weave 210D material, which is great for general water sports. Use the skeg (included) to improve tracking when paddling.
The Surveyor now comes with the option of having a deck that can be used in a fully enclosed, or semi-open configuration. When not in use, it can be rolled up.
The advantages of the olive Surveyor are that it is a great camouflage colour, the coating is slightly thicker than the white one, the scratch resistance is improved, and it is still light and easy to fold. The total weight of the olive Surveyor is only 2.7 kg (5.95 lbs).
