What is a Packraft?

A packraft is a compact inflatable vessel that combines features of a raft and a kayak. It has a kayak-like shape and seating position but offers the stability and lightweight construction of an inflatable raft.

Why Choose a Packraft?

Lazy Day’s MRS (Micro Rafting System) packraft has become one of our hottest rental items, and it’s easy to see why — quality materials, a lightweight build, quick assembly and pack-up, a 3-year warranty, and plain FUN. It’s a durable option for one or two adults who want a smaller vessel and a more active paddling experience on the Bow River in Calgary.

Its streamlined shape, longer waterline, and narrow hull reduce water resistance to make the packraft easy to paddle. A detachable skeg adds stability and reduces lateral swing for an even smoother ride. Despite the narrow hull, a high seat cushion keeps you comfortably seated above the side tubes, with plenty of room instead of feeling squeezed between them.

1-person (fits 1 adult)

A compact, lightweight choice for one paddler looking for an easy-to-maneuver vessel. The Packraft has a similar shape and seating style to a kayak.

2-person (fits 1-2 adults)

A flexible choice for a solo paddler who wants extra room or two light travellers sharing a compact vessel. The Packraft has a similar shape and seating style to a kayak.

How a Packraft Differs from the Other Rentals

Choose a Packraft when you want a compact, lightweight vessel with a streamlined shape and a more active paddling style.

Choose a Raft when you prefer more room, side seating or space for a larger group. Choose a Kayak when you prefer individual-style seating in a single or double vessel.

Bringing Your Dog?

Dogs are welcome, but Packraft space is limited. A small dog may be suitable if it can remain safely with one owner.

Medium and large dogs count as one passenger. A 2-person Packraft should not be booked for two adults plus a medium or large dog. Contact Lazy Day before booking if you are unsure whether a Packraft is appropriate.

Optional Pre-Float Shuttle

The Pre-Float Shuttle is not included in the Packraft rental price. It is an optional paid add-on charged per person and can be added to the booking.

Park near the end of the float at the Lazy Day Shop and ride to West Baker Park before the trip. When the float ends, the vehicle is only a short walk away.

Small dogs that can remain on their owner’s lap do not require an additional shuttle seat. Add a shuttle seat for each medium or large dog.
